Aluminum Composite Panel (ACP) Installation Methods

Aluminum Composite Panel (ACP) is a new decorative material made by bonding aluminum sheets with a polyethylene plastic core through hot pressing. It is widely used for building exterior walls, curtain walls, interior decoration, and signboards.
The installation method depends mainly on the application scenario (exterior wall / interior wall / ceiling / signboard) and the fixing technique.

1. Common Installation Methods

1.1 Dry-Hanging Method (Keel Installation)

Applications: Exterior walls, curtain walls, large façade installations
Advantages: Ventilated, moisture-resistant, easy maintenance, good flatness, durable

Installation Process:

  1. Base Preparation:
Clean the wall surface → mark reference and control lines → determine keel positions.
  2. Install Frame System:
Use galvanized steel or aluminum alloy keels, fixed to the main structure with brackets.
  3. Panel Installation:
    • Cut, groove, and bend panels to required size.
    • Attach hanging clips or corner brackets around the panel edges.
    • Fix panels to the keels using bolts, rivets, or hanging clips.
  4. Sealant Application:
Apply weatherproof silicone sealant to panel joints.
  5. Inspection & Cleaning:
Adjust flatness and clean the surface.

1.2 Adhesive Method (Wet Installation)

Applications: Interior wall decoration, ceilings, column wrapping
Advantages: Low cost, simple process
Disadvantages: Not weather-resistant, unsuitable for outdoor use

Installation Process:

  1. Ensure the wall surface is flat, dry, and dust-free.
  2. Mark grid lines according to design.
  3. Apply adhesive (e.g., structural adhesive, contact glue) in dots or stripes.
  4. Press panels evenly and tap gently with a rubber hammer for firm bonding.
  5. Treat panel joints with decorative strips or sealant.

1.3 Screw Fixing Method (Mechanical Fastening)

Applications: Signboards, display boards, interior decoration, ceilings
Advantages: Easy installation, low cost
Disadvantages: Slightly lower flatness, visible screw heads may affect appearance

Installation Process:

  1. Install wooden or light steel framework.
  2. Cut and drill panels to required dimensions.
  3. Fix panels with self-tapping screws or rivets.
  4. Cover screw heads with decorative caps or sealant.

1.4 Combined Method (Dry-Hanging + Adhesive)

Applications: Special shapes or areas requiring extra strength
Method:
Use mechanical fastening (dry-hanging) for key load-bearing points, and structural adhesive elsewhere for stability and sealing.

2. Key Points and Precautions

  1. Panel Processing:
Use specialized cutting and grooving tools; bending radius ≥ 1.5 × panel thickness.
  2. Structural Adhesive:
Use weather-resistant silicone adhesive for exterior projects; joint width 8–10 mm.
  3. Thermal Expansion:
Leave expansion gaps (≥ 5 mm) between panels to prevent deformation.
  4. Fire Safety:
Use fire-retardant ACP panels (Class B1 or A2) for exterior installations.
  5. Cleaning and Maintenance:
Clean with neutral detergent; avoid strong acid or alkali solutions.
